Total Population – 20,990, including visitors. Residents 14,103 (7,365 males and 6,738
female) – increase of 14.8% since
1996, and 37.8% since 1991. 14,103
counted at home, with some 7,267 visitors, 2,667 of which were from overseas
and 3,974 from interstate
Age – median age was 37, versus 34 in 1996 and 32 in 1991. Our population is maturing
Marital Status – 7,840 married people (51.7%), excluding overseas
visitors, (4,007 males and 3,833 females), 532 separated people (3.5), 1,334
divorced people (8.8%), 593 widowed people (3.9), and 4,879 people who had
never been married (aged 15 and over) (32.9%). In 1996 the figures were: 7,212 married (52.2%), 515 separated
(3/7%), 1,040 divorced (7.5%), 514 widowed (3.7%), and 4,545 never married
(32.9%). In 1991: 6,427 married
(54.2%), 350 separated (3.0%), 717 divorced (6.0%), 510 widowed (4.3%), and
3,857 never married (32.5%).
Employment Status – 93.4% employed (92.1% in 1996, and 89.8% in
1991), 66.9% in full-time employment (35 hours or more per week), and 30.6%
part-time. 6.6% unemployed (7.9% in
1996 and 10.2% in 1991).
